sleep
Just like food, water and air, sleep is essential to how we think, feel and function. Sleep health is starting to be recognised for its integrated role in our total health and wellbeing. Many years involved in sleep research, and more recently, clinical sleep practice, mean I bring an evidenced based approach to my work with an understanding of the science behind our sleep/wake functioning.
treatment
I primarily offer treatment for insomnia. Cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-i) is a non-drug option for treating this sleep problem. CBT-i is considered to be the most effective approach to treating chronic insomnia because of its long lasting effects and the emphasis on the person with insomnia gaining knowledge and skills to manage their sleep for life. I have undertaken intensive training in CBT-i at the University of Pennsylvania. I am a member of the Australasian Sleep Association, and the Society for Behavioral Sleep Medicine.
perinatal & infant sleep support
Sleep changes affect all women in the first 1,000 days of family life (often from before conception to the early years). I can help with making sense of these changes and how they might affect other parts of life. I can also help you better understand your individual baby’s sleep in your unique family unit. We can also talk about some of the different approaches to managing sleep changes so you can make choices that are workable for you and your baby.
